Fund Raising is A Team Effort!

"Fund Raising is a team effort."

"To find donors, best to have all three: Connection, Capability and Concern."

These are just a few of the many things learned during the Fund Raising Training and Planning Workshop of Tapulanga Foundation, Inc. held last March 16, 2012 at Nature's Village Resort, Talisay City, Negros Occidental. Presented by the guru of fund raisers, Ms. Marianne "Mayan" Quebral of Venture for Fund Raising, 30 participants (either a Board member, Executive Director and/or staff) from fourteen organizations enthusiastically joined in the workshop.

Keep it up! Very informative and useful especially that we are now in the process of re- organizing structures. A very productive day for me. Thank you very much.
Excellent speaker, very accommodating and helpful to needs of the audience. Audience size is enough for learning.
It was very good - we gained so much from the workshop.

To NGOs and Non-profits in Negros

If you're part of an NGO / Non-profit in Negros or know someone who is part of an NGO / Non-profit, please forward this information along.

To NGOs and Non-profits in Negros (from Mic Abello Golez):

Greetings of Peace!

Last year, Tapulanga Foundation organized the How to Fund Raise seminar and participants learned so much that they asked for more.  It is for this reason that we are organizing this time a workshop where organizations can do an actual planning of a fundraiser for their foundation.

Many still say their organization cannot afford the seminar fee.  Tapulanga Foundation invested Php12,000 many years ago to send me to Manila to attend a seminar on the Basic of Fund Raising. And this amount was big for us since we were still very, very small and our donors were a few.  But I came out of the seminar with so much learning and ideas and the confidence and enthusiasm I also needed that Tapulanga Foundation's donor base grew a hundredth fold since then.

Fund raising is the heart of a foundation because without it, you will not survive.  And many are not successful with it because they do not realize there is much to learn about it.  Moreover, many stay small thinking there is not enough donors out there.  In TF, there is no such thing as not enough donors.  Our concern is how to let everyone be donors!

This is a great opportunity as the seminar is only Php2,500 (and with discount if you send more than one participant)!  Compare this to the Php12,000 we spent many years ago!

I hope that you will be able to join us and learn a lot and go home with a renewed spirit to raise more funds for your organization.

Sincerely,
Ma. Carmela “Micmic” Abello-Golez

Tapulanga Foundation Conducting Fund Raising Workshop for Visayas' NGOs

Tapulanga Foundation, in cooperation with Akubo Software, Inc. and Unionbank of the Philippines, bring you The Fund Raising Training and Planning Workshop presented by Manila’s Venture for Fund Raising this coming March 16, 2012, Friday at Nature’s Village Resort, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Tapulanga Foundation would like to invite all the non-government organizations in the Visayas regions to join this workshop which will focus on the non-profit plans for sustainability and will make use of a variety of participatory exercises and input sessions designed for maximized learning. This workshop is open to NGOs’ board members, project managers, executive directors or any key stakeholder in the organization.
Registration fee will be Php 2,500.00/participant which includes the seminar kit, certificate, snacks and lunch. A discounted fee of Php 5,000.00/3 persons will be given if you will send 3 participants from your organization.
Tapulanga Foundation once again brings to Negros a planning workshop wherein organizations will equip themselves with the fund-raising capacity. Mayan Quebral, Executive Director of Venture for Fund Raising will be conducting the one-day workshop. Last year, more than 40 individuals from 27 different organizations all over Negros attended the workshop on “How To Fund Raise” also presented by Venture for Fund Raising. These are some testimonials from our workshop last year:

I've applied the little learning I got from last year's seminar and got at least 3 donors who have sponsored 2 college students to finish and complete their last semester last year. – Willie Villanueva, Cedar College

The things that we learned from the workshop challenged us to do more in our efforts to fundraise for The Negros Museum. We study, calculate and manage risks in a given situation for us to maximize the potential for a fundraising activity. With effective communications, relationship marketing and improved online presence, we were able to do several major and minor fundraising events for the year 2011. – Nina Bonilla, Administrative Officer, The Negros Museum

I learned that fund raising is an art in itself. There are so many ways to go about it, and so many techniques. But mostly, I realized that we have to find a way to make every person understand our mission by simplifying our messages, creating a bigger impact. Sometimes less is more. – Kaila Ledesma-Trebol, Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc.

This year’s workshop will include the following:
• Overview of basic fund raising principles and strategies, marketing communication theories and practices;
• Identification of several sources of income, current stakeholders and potential donors to build a broader constituency as well as cultivate donor relationships;
• Assessing their capability and readiness to implement fund raising activities;
• Developing a mindset for successful and systematic fund raising involving the members of the board, if any, staff and volunteers;
• Planning effective fund raising activities by using the fund raising planning template; and
• Initiating the development a fund raising plan.

Micro-Credit Answers the Economic Concerns of a Local Household

The once simple balcony of Mrs. Jocelyn Belgera's house has been turned into a small sari-sari store two years ago when she qualified to be one of Tapulanga Foundation's Micro-credit beneficiary. With P6,000.00 as starting capital, she shares she is able to send her son to college. She renews her loan every two months, paying on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. During peak months or when there is a special occasion like a fiesta or Christmas, she borrows more from the foundation to earn more.

Mrs. Belgera supports the weekly allowance of her son at John B. Lacson College, Alijis, Bacolod City from the income of her store. A resident of Hda. Tinihaban, Silay City, her son has to stay in Bacolod on weekdays, thus, she saves her income both for the allowance and the remittance payment for her micro-credit loan.

"It is the TRUST of the Tapulanga Foundation entrusted to me that I am very grateful about. I hope that both my children will learn the value of BEING MAN FOR OTHERS as they themselves will someday sponsor poor but deserving students."
Mrs. Belgera is married to Agapito, who is a farm laborer in Hacienda Tinihaban. They have two children: Jophet, a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi School and a scholar as well of the foundation and Agazelen, her daughter who is a Grade 6 scholar of St. Francis Of Assisi School at present.

FUN, FOOD, FESTIVITY!!!

FUN, FOOD, FESTIVITY!!!
Tapulanga Foundation's Christmas Giving Party
makes it HEARTY for EVERYONE!

A true spirit of sharing filled the ambiance of the recently celebrated Christmas party of the Tapulanga Foundation held last December 20, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi School covered court.

The Christmas package of shoes, t-shirt, groceries, a plate and toothpaste was fully distributed to all its beneficiaries, 246 scholars from preschool to college, including the ham package for the 35 SFAS faculty and staff.

The afternoon celebration included a variety of games hosted by McDonald's, free balloons, free ice scramble and cotton candy, games like inflatable balloons and a trampoline, and more than one hundred raffle prizes. Thanks to WARNER BROS., INC. for donating most of the raffle prizes.

Three lucky winners won bikes as the grand prize. What more could everyone ask as each one's hand was full during the day.

Mr. Gerard Yusay celebrated his birthday by having his family join the festivities and sponsoring the McDonald's snacks!

Other donors and their families graced the occasion as well to be with the scholars like the Abello's, Ledesma's, del Rosario's, Calanog's, Benin's, Janice Ragona, Trixie Servida, and Ervie Gallespen.

The kids further got another fun gift from TF----- the Magic show by Magician Ivan!

Beaming faces obviously showed that fun was to a heart's content. The scholars are the reasons why patrons and donors are driven to reach out and help the less privileged. The grateful and appreciative gestures gave way to a worthwhile December affair for all who came.

A special thank you goes to ALL our donors who made TF's second Christmas party even more successful: Renzi Juarez, Anne del Rosario, Fiona Borres, Checcs Osmena-Orbida, Gerard and Leny Yusay, The Gigglebugs Gift and Party Shop, Corazon Chiofalo, Amy Strahl, Bing Benin, Jackie Millonado, Jenny Sarmiento-Icasas, ANONYMOUS donors, Betsy Gazo, Ervie Gallespen, Janet Villanueva, Micmic Golez, Marilou Kho, Vicky Ledesma, Donna Gorjon, Neal and Virgini Jarvis, Lourdes Schnur, Frank and Ida Reis, Tata Jalbuena, Jerome Concepcion, Dra.
